Loading a portable storage container is different from packing a moving truck — you’re not driving it anywhere, so a few small habits can save you a lot of frustration later. Here are five tips our customers swear by.
1. Load heaviest items first, and low
Furniture, appliances, and boxes of books belong on the bottom and toward the front. This keeps the container’s weight balanced and gives lighter, more fragile items a safe home on top.
2. Face your entryway toward your garage or driveway access
We’ll place the container so the doors are easy to reach — but think about how you’ll walk items in. A clear, short path from your door to the container makes loading dramatically faster.
3. Use the side rails
Every Go Mini’s container has rails built in specifically for strapping down furniture and awkward items. Use them. A little rope or a couple of ratchet straps can prevent a lot of shifting.
4. Fill gaps with soft goods
Pillows, blankets, and clothing bags are perfect for filling empty pockets between furniture pieces, which helps keep everything from sliding around once the container’s on the move.
5. Don’t rush — you set the schedule
Every rental runs 30 days and you can extend anytime, so there’s no need to cram everything into one exhausting weekend. Load a little at a time if that works better for your schedule.
